"Who am I? Why am I here?" I love those words offered up by Admiral James Stockdale at the 1992 vice presidential debate. He was Ross Perot's running mate and probably couldn't figure out quite why he accepted that odd gig. I don't have the identity issue. I am the new guy with the Redskins Broadcast Network and Redskins.com. I come to you after many a year at USA TODAY, where I lumbered around the NFL beat and raided press buffets nation-wide. Now I am here to give you impartial, unbiased critiques of the Redskins on the many media platforms the club offers (TV, radio, this new-fangled Internet thingy). So let's get acquainted. If you are stopping by here, you've got a vested interest in the Redskins (and you may need a new vest). I hope I can take you behind the scenes, into the minds of the players and coaches and offere some insights into what goes on at Redskins Park and at the games. Hope we can all have some fun with this.

Favorite Sports Movie
The Longest Yard. I had a cameo role as (what else?) a sports writer covering the epic game between the prison guards and the inmates. There were about seven of us packed into a mock-up of a press box. This group included Peter King of Sports Illustrated, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, me (then with USA TODAY), Sam Farmer (Los Angeles Times). Great fun filming our scenes.

Favorite Sports Jam
The University of Maryland Fight Song. Fortunately, the song spells out the school name, saving me the hassle of having to look it up every time. Proud graduate of Turtle U. Still love the Terps.

Favorite Redskins Great
Art Monk. The first big feature I wrote for the first newspaper I worked for was on Art. I was in White Plains, N.Y. at the time, Art's home town, and he was a freshman at Syracuse. Went up to see him in late October and froze my keister off at old Archbold Stadium. I always followed Art's career because of that story so many years ago (it was 1976).

Favorite Redskins Moment
How can it not be John Riggins' touchdown run in the Super Bowl against Miami? I covered that game for USA TODAY and well remember Riggo barreling to the left and shaking off Don McNeal. Dramatic moment. Sealed the Legend of the Diesel.

Favorite NFC Match Up
I think I'm supposed to say Washington-Dallas, followed closely by Washington-Philadelphia and Washington-New York Giants. But I kinda like Green Bay-Chicago for historical reasons. Giants-Eagles is always good, too. Especially now, after Philly knocked the Giants out of the playoffs.
