Under the bus, Gus

Redskins heading out for practice on Thursday with a change in their defensive lineup. Reed Doughty in at SS, Chris Horton out. Horton had a critical 47-yard pass interference penalty in the loss to Detroit. Dougjhty gives the Redskins a better blitzing option and defensive coordinator Greg Blache hinted he would look to bring more pressure against winless Tampa Bay and a QB, Josh Johnson, making his first career start. Blache also said he should be one people blame for the defense's breakdowns and awful record on third downs. When it comes to throwing people under the bus, Blache said, "I should be under the bus."  Why? "Because I'm the leader." Said he would gamble more than he is normally comfortable with, too. "I've got to be a little more of a maverick," he said. Doughty, in his 4th season, missed all but three games last year and had back surgery. Surprised to be back as the starter? "You never know what's going to happen," he said. ... My take: Positive move. Redskins cannot stand still. They need to be more aggressive and that's a trait Doughty brings.

  • All though I love the thought of Blitzes every other down, but note to my Linebackers watch for the screen pass out of the backfield. It has killed us since Preseason and they still can't defend it. What we LACK is Heart, Emotion, and Attitude. Quit blaming Zorn and take a good look in the mirror because that's who is to Blame.

  • horton makes plays other than the penalty against the lions, he had a big game vs. the rams - if doughty's the answer to pressure on the qb then we need that and orakpo should be playing where he's good

  • Skins need more QB pressure - Arakpo brings it!  (Temporarily) put off the Linebacker experiment and put him on D End on every down.  Phillip Daniels sits, Wilson starts at LB.

Also, corners are looking soft when it comes to tackling.  Maybe not Dieon Sanders soft - but let's see some bump and run and some TACKLING!

  • As big of a fan as I am of Chris Horton, I do think that bringing Reed Doughty back into the starting lineup is the best move. The defense needs to start figuring out how to get some pressure, turnovers and sacks. Haynesworth is earning a truckload of money, and is a dominant player (so they say) but he cannot do it all himself. Hopefully this little change in lineup can breathe new life into a defense that is obviously struggling.
