Signs of the times

Mike Shanahan continues to answer media questions in one-on-one interviews following his introductory news conference at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Redskins Park. One of the popular queries, asked several ways, focused on the club's decision-making and to whom final authority would fall. Shanahan somewhat reluctantly said he would have final say, as he did with the Denver Broncos, but that he rarely if ever invoked that privilege. In keeping with this sort of tenor, Shanahan shared the dais with the general manager Bruce Allen and owner Daniel M. Snyder sat in the front row of the auditorium with his wife, Shanahan's wife Peggy and team minority owners Dwight Schar and Bob Rothman. Snyder did not make any comments at the newser, nor was he the subject of any questions. Shanahan talked about him freely, saying he had known Snyder for 10 years, that they spoke often and that once, at a league meeting, Snyder told Broncos owner Pat Bowlen "I want to trade for your coach." ... And despite the recent emphasis on hiring someone familiar with the franchise's rich tradition, the three Super Bowl trophies did not make an appearance at this presser. They remained in their showcase in the front of the building.

  • As a loyal Skins fan, I would like to propose a plea to the owner, Mr. Snyder.  Please allow Shanahan the opportunity to coach the way he coaches!

You should be supportive, but not interfere with the day to day activities of the Redskins.  You have hired the right people for the job....now is the time to let them do their job!
