Hey Redskins Fans! Megs here, writing you directly from our Southwest Asia Military Appreciation Tour. The girls and I have been having a blast representing the Redskins overseas; in attempts to do what we can to say thank you to all of those who are risking their lives for us. Even though we have been really busy since we’ve been here, we wanted to make sure you all at home are informed on what we’ve been up to.

After 3 days of traveling and 2 airport layovers, I was one happy camper to arrive at our first stop: Manas Airbase in Kyrgyzstan, where we were met by our security officers. (We love you Michelle, Tina, Z and Gomez!) Once on base they showed us to our living quarters where we had just enough time to unpack and shower. Then we were off.

Manas Airbase serves as a transit site for troops traveling in and out of Afghanistan. We spent a lot of time at the DFAC (dining facility) hanging out and getting to know a lot of soldiers who had either just gotten back or were on their way into conflict zones. We were also given the opportunity to travel off base to see a few sights of downtown Manas and learn about the Kyrgyz culture.

The last day at Manas AB was spent touring the base, HUMV rides and K-9 demonstrations. Dawn, Tequia and Talmesha were brave enough to put the ‘dummie suit’ on and let the dogs demonstrate how they help protect the soldiers. And most importantly, we were at “Pete’s Place” where we performed our tour show in front of a packed house, twice! I know all of us cheerleaders were especially delighted that so many showed up to see us. It made my day to see so many smiling faces; to know that we had such a positive affect on these men and women who had already experienced so much.

Well, that’s it for me right now-we have an early flight to UAE next! Honestly I don’t know how the next base could top what we’ve experienced, but I can’t wait to find out. Cheers :)
