All about Al
As expected, much of the focus at the Redskins' Media Day was on the long-absent Albert Haynesworth. He did in fact report on Wednesday, met with coach Mike Shanahan and spent about two hours with defensive coordinator Jim Haslett as well. Coaches were expecting him to stick around in the afternoon to watch film and begin catching up on all the off-season work he missed while training on his own and reportedly trying to force a trade. "He said he's in good shape," coach Mike Shanahan reported. "If he passes the conditioning test, he'll work out with the team." Practice begins Thursday. Players weigh in in the morning. Shanahan also pronounced himself "very pleased" with Haynesworth's "mindset and where he's coming from." Haynesworth, signed as a free agent a year ago, had expressed reservations about the team's switch to a 3-4 defense, in which he most likely will play right end. In the traditional 4-3, he had played defensive tackle and he did want to play inside as the nose tackle. So we wait and watch practice on Thursday and we will see if Haynesworth's off-season program readied him to participate at the start of camp.
